FIESTA DE REYES MAGOS (Celebration of the Three Kings of The Magi)

January 6th in the Cerro Alto community

A tradition carried out through the generations where the towns people dress as and emulate the Three Kings of the Magi by taking gifts to their neighbors.

FESTIVAL DE LAS CHIRINGAS Y TIGÜEROS (Kite & Tigüeros Festival)

Second weekend of February (non-municipal holiday)

Started 26 years ago by a group of kite flyers in the mountains of Ánimas (Caldelaria) and actually celebrated on highway 116.  Jibaro (traditional) and International music in addition to kite and tigüero competitions.

FESTIVAL SAN PEDRO (Festival for the Patron Saint of the Fisherman)

Last weekend of June (non-municipal holiday)

San Pedro is the catholic Patron Saint of the fishermen.   A procession starts on the land and moves towards the sea in boats flamboyantly decorated with flowers. It travels along the coast of La Parguera and eventually returns to the land and the church where it began.

To announce the beginning of Christmas lights throughout our town are turned on.  The intention is to salute our town's local artisans.

 

OLIMPIADOS MUNICIPALES (Lajas Town Olympics)

The whole month of October

Beauty contests, sports, parade and passing of the torch. Different games in different parks throughout the neighborhoods of Lajas.
